History
Una vez finalizada la Guerra Civil, el Patrimonio de la República cambió su denominación por Patrimonio Nacional mediante la Ley de 15 de junio de 1939. La estructura administrativa apenas varió, conservando el Consejo de Administración, pero fue la Ley de 7 de marzo de 1940 la que constituyó definitivamente el Patrimonio Nacional como institución, que pasó a depender directamente de la Jefatura del Estado.
Según la citada ley, los bienes que integraban el Patrimonio Nacional conformaban una unidad jurídica indivisible, eran propiedad del Estado, inalienables e imprescriptibles, y adscritos al uso y servicio de la jefatura del Estado. Además no estaban sujetos a contribuciones e impuestos ni a responsabilidad. Sus principales funciones eran la conservación, fomento y administración de los bienes que componían el Patrimonio Nacional, así como aquellos que se incorporasen en lo sucesivo. Además debía ejercer las mismas facultades sobre los Reales Patronatos.
Las competencias de la nueva institución se reflejaron en el Reglamento provisional del Consejo de Administración de Patrimonio Nacional de 1942, aprobado por orden de 4 de abril. Dicho Consejo estaba compuesto por un presidente y seis vocales (Consejero Delegado Gerente, Interventor y cuatro especialistas en Arquitectura, Bellas Artes, Agricultura y Montes).
La estructura administrativa de la institución se mantuvo sin apenas cambios en los más de cuarenta años de vigencia. Se componía de una Gerencia, las Secciones Administrativa y de Contabilidad; varios servicios entre los que destacaban los Servicios Histórico y de Bellas Artes, y el de Obras; la Inspección de Palacios y Museos, y las Delegaciones de las Administraciones Patrimoniales en Madrid (hasta 1942), Aranjuez, El Escorial, El Pardo, San Ildefonso, Sevilla y Palma de Mallorca.
