History
Eclesiástico castellano.
Fue hijo de Juan Álvarez Osorio, señor de Villatugo, fallecido en 1437, y de su segunda esposa, María Manuel, fallecida en Burgos en 1465.
Luis de Acuña fue hermano de Pedro Girón, arcediano de Valpuesta, y de Antonio Sarmiento, alcalde mayor de Burgos.
Durante la Guerra de Sucesión que estalló al fallecer Enrique IV, el obispo Luis de Acuña tomó partido por Juana la Beltraneja y el rey de Portugal junto a sus parientes de Carrillo, Acuña, Girón y Pacheco. Destaca en especial su participación en el asedio del castillo de Burgos, apoyando a los rebeldes a Fernando e Isabel con tropas y alimentos
